Cat Power - Jukebox

Jukebox is the eighth album by American singer/songwriter Chan Marshall (a.k.a. Cat Power). Except for "Song To Bobby", the album is comprised entirely of cover songs. Chan Marshall stops time. She sits at a piano or lays her guitar across her lap, and whether it’s a noisy club overflowing with drunks or a coffee house full of laptoppers, Chan Marshall draws all the attention in the room and makes the world stop spinning. As Cat Power, Marshall’s music seems to rise from nowhere, envelop the room, then vanish; listeners know they’ve been hit by something but they’re not sure what.

According to Matador Records, there will be a limited-edition silver foil deluxe package containing a bonus disc with five extra songs. You can download and listen my track picks from Jukebox. Song To Bobby sounds perfect, a very new mellow tune like we used to listen from her. Other new song which is called "Metal Heart" a very passionate rock ballad, you know Cat Power doesn't disappoint. If you ask me to say which cover is the best, it's originally by Joni Mitchell, yes the song is Blue. One of the best song of all time.

Guest appearances: Spooner Oldham (Neil Young, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan), Larry McDonald (Toots & The Maytals, Taj Mahal), Teenie Hodges (Al Green, Memphis Rhythm Band), and Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Will Oldham).

Jukebox tracklist:
1. New York (Frank Sinatra)
2. Ramblin’ (Wo)man (Hank Williams)
3. Metal Heart (Cat Power *)
4. Silver Stallion (The Highwaymen)
5. Aretha, Sing One For Me (George Jackson)
6. Lost Someone (James Brown)
7. Lord, Help The Poor And Needy (Jessie Mae Hemphill)
8. I Believe In You (Bob Dylan)
9. Song To Bobby (new song of Cat Power **) removed by label request
10. Don’t Explain (Billie Holiday)
11. Woman Left Lonely (Janis Joplin)
12. Blue ( soulfull Joni Mitchell cover)

Scritti Politti - Wood Beez

I can copy-paste another Amg Song Review, shouldn't i? Because this song cheers me up. Brilliant, shining, perfect with what it has got. Review says most of all, and i can only ad some mp3 and video in plus. Enjoy with best music on The MM blog.

One of the most brilliant synth-dance singles of all time, "Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)" is a pinnacle of the form. The arrangement, by singer/songwriter Green Gartside and his co-conspirators David Gamson and Fred Maher, combines with Arif Mardin's seamless production into a textbook example of how to make a dance track that's so kinetic that it's impossible not to move to, but so clever and rich-sounding that it's equally fun to listen to alone on headphones with the lights off. Gartside's lyrics are among his most allusive and playful, mixing soul homage and his usual hyperactive wordplay, and his helium-pitched vocal style (imagine Boy George channeling the prepubescent Michael Jackson) is one of the most bizarre and wonderful musical personas of its era. Not a US chart hit, but a dancefloor classic, "Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)" is a frothy, almost silly masterpiece.

Kurt Cobain - About A Son

For this unique film, director AJ Schnack assembled selections from the Azerrad interviews and merged them with newly filmed, evocative imagery of the three cities in Washington state that played a major role in Cobain's life: Aberdeen, Olympia and Seattle. Shot entirely on 35mm film, Schnack brings the Northwest to life in vivid detail: the logging industry where CobainÕs father worked, the small bars where local bands played their first shows, the endlessly overcast sky.

These impressionistic images, many of which were filmed in locations that were key to Cobain's life -- his home, apartment, school, record label, etc. -- are set to an evocative original score by noted Northwest musician and producer Steve Fisk, who produced Nirvana's Blew EP, and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Benjamin Gibbard, as well as the music of more than 20 artists who influenced or touched Cobain during his life, from childhood favorites Arlo Guthrie and Queen, to the influential punk bands Bad Brains and Big Black, to his Sub Pop contemporaries Mudhoney and Mark Lanegan to legendary music figures Iggy Pop, David Bowie and R.E.M.

Love Is All - Love Is All Mixed Up

2008 mini album featuring a selection of remixes of songs from their debut album Nine Times That Same Song, reinterpreted by their contemporaries. This remixes can be my winter dance favorites. Because they sound so good. Felt Tip (Hot Chip Remix) combines beauty of female voice and space beats, the song is really a masterpiece with the saxophone final. The Bees deliver a tough and straight up Funk version of 'Make Out Fall Out Make Up'. Othercontributions include Metronomy's killer mix of 'Spinning And Scratching' and Tapedeck's DIY Rave take on 'Busy Doing Nothing' plus other stunning remixes by Chicken Lips, Optimo, Maps, Fryars and Studio. Parlophone. Without doubt, Love Is All Mixed Up can be highly recommended to every independent electronic music listener as best new music. Every song in this record sound professionally good.

The Shins

In the late 1990s, the Albuquerque indie-rock band Flake Music morphed into the Shins, led by vocalist-guitarist James Mercer. Upon the release of 2001's Oh, Inverted World, the Shins garnered a landslide of critical acclaim with their amiable, 1960s-influenced power-pop. Subsequent touring further raised the group's profile, and their eagerly awaited sophomore album, Chutes Too Narrow, revealed another set of clever and quirky pop-rock ditties. James Mercer's voice has also grown in strength. James Mercer really knows now just where to bring a certain tone to the song to hit you right in the heart. The Shins had never before hit higher than number 86 on the Billboard charts, but i love them and they're surely one of the best 2000s indie rock bands.

Britney Spears - Blackout - Review

Rating: 8.5/10

Really? Legendary Britney Spears impressed me as a young female singer, but this time not with her scandals in magazine industry. This time she releases a good record which is comprised of modern pop, disco and electronic music. I don't think like she's a falling star, she has learned a lot from making mistakes. For a pop star like Britney, the first single Gimme More maybe can't be a good reborn. You're right if you think this record is good because of those important names in writing and mixing the record. Anyway, she sings with her soul, she improved her taste in music, she's again a big teen idol, this time much stronger. Radar which song recalls glourous 80s back and it becomes one of the keytracks. It sounds like Soft Cell's Tainted Love cover. Maybe, her overdosed private life on everywhere hides the beauty of this record, i'll recommend this album to anyone loves modern pop music. Listening pop music doesn't make you an idiot, and "rock" isn't cool much as you think. It's the music which helps to put some extra happiness to your life, not the genre. Why Should I Be Sad closes the whole record with its dark, sexy sound, and depressed lyrics. Blackout is great for dancing, the best album of her career.

Britney Spears - Heaven On Earth
Britney Spears - Why Should I Be Sad

MM picks: Radar, Heaven On Earth, Why Should I Be Sad

Bat For Lashes - What's A Girl To Do

I've been listening this song since three months because of its quality, Bat For Lashes got my heart with this song. The video charted in P4K's Top 50 Music Videos of 2007 list (i think it should be the number one!). They're right on this one, a great video! The pitchfork review:

Bat for Lashes' Natasha Khan is upfront about her influences on "What's a Girl to Do", from the ever-ubiquitous "Be My Baby" opening to the melodramatic Shangri-Las spoken-word verses. But there's a gothic ominousness, too, in the recently released single's minor chord harmonies and sparse keyboards. This Dougal Wilson-directed video follows the Brighton, UK-based Khan across one long continuous shot. You never forget how to ride a bicycle, maybe, but you certainly never forget the sight of animal-masked cyclists pulling off synchronized jumps.

A beautiful day...Christmas Vol 3.

My choice of christmas songs sound interesting, you'll love these strange songs from great names.

Over The Rhine - All I Ever Get For Christmas Is Blue
Over the Rhine's new effort Snow Angels is quite melancholic record that i highly recommend, and this down tune comes from the same record.

Cardinal - If You Believe In Christmas Trees
Cardinal was a one-off project from singers/songwriters Richard Davies and Eric Matthews. The song is included in their self-titled and only studio record.

Yello - Jingle Bells
Do not give up reading my blog after listening this song, it's quite funny!

The White Stripes - Candy Cane Children
Released in 2002, the Merry Christmas from… The White Stripes 7¨ features the fan club favourite “Candy Cane Children” as well as the bizarre “The Reading of the Story of the Magi” and “The Singing of Silent Night”, which are exactly just that.

Bright Eyes - God Red Ye Merry Gentlemen
This is a lovely song from Bright Eyes' Christmas album (2002).

Sun Ra - It's Christmas Time
The best things about playlist are opening the list with a down tempo and ending up the list with bizarre song. I love this!

Beach House - Devotion - Review

Rating: 8/10

I want the world to hear them, because they deserve success. For a band there is nothing more miserable than an exhausted desire. You create music, but your talent is not recognized. We should be grateful for amazing under rated bands for creating such great music. That's why I love the art of music so much! Baltimore dream pop duo, Beach House, produce another great record. It is plain dream pop music but fulfilled with emotion. The openers ‘Wedding Bell’ and ‘Gila’ are the standout songs.

As you know, the self-titled Beach House was one of the most blogged album of last year. Organs, percussion, and guitar echo around you. Actually, their songs are pretty relaxing, and you just let it play. Victoria Legrand keeps her tone of voice exactly the same on every song, which can be dull at times. I think she's a big fan of Nico, and has a similar voice. Nico, in my opinion is one of the most important female names in rock music history. The album is original and it makes you dreamy on those winter nights.

MM picks: Wedding Bell, Gila, All The Years, D.A.R.L.I.N.G.

Top 5 Rock Singles

The MM presents the new music of love! Enjoy, have a drink!

New Singles

1. Destroyer - Foam Hands
Destroyer's Rubies was one of the best record of last year. It was very beautiful listenning Rubies in hot summer nights. Lush guitar harmonies, Dan Bejar's bitter voice, and a little artist dust are the main reason why i believed in this name. Foam Hands is another perfect piece which blow my mind. I hope it makes the same impact on you.

2. Eric Matthews - Little 18
Oh Eric Matthews, it's the single name that i'll recognize everytime i hear that words 'charming pop music'. Yes he did great job with new song Little 18, one of the greatest melancholic tune of this year, of course along with Chris Conelly's Every Ghost Has An Orchestra.

3. Les Savy Fav - Brace Yourself

4. Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor [Youtube Video]

5. British Sea Power - Waving Flags [Youtube Video]

Blancmange - Love Your Love

This video used to make me smile so much and I'm happy posting it. Blancmange is one of the most underrated bands in the pop history. This video was briefly featured in the movie "Flight of the Navigator", in the scene when David is at NASA, in a secured room. Sarah Jessica Parker's character told David, what have you never seen a music video before?

New Singles
1. The Thermals - Returning to the Fold

Frank Black

I love him, do i need to add extra information? Inverting his stage name from Black Francis to Frank Black, the former Pixies lead singer/songwriter embarked on a solo career after he broke up the band in early 1993; actually, he began recording his solo album before he told the band the news. And this wasn't an unfortunate decision, because every band should come to its end after releasing sufficiently good records. Like The Rolling Stones, The Who or any other bands who still try to make same records, that lacks of being legend. The Pixies are the legend, and Frank Black is still one of the best rock icons.

Scissor Sisters - Hurrah! A Year of Ta-Dah

These 19 song recorded during live show in 2007, at London's 02, along with a behind the scenes documentary of the Scissor Sisters on the tour itself. I'm not a big Scissor fan myself, i like some of their songs, though. I like their nice Comfortably Numb cover, or their great brit-pop oriented song I Can't Decide. Their sound vision perfectly fits with showily dressed clothings, make-up, and femininity, this proves the inspirition by burlesque, drag queens, and glam rock. As always, i present music and give an opinion about it, listening and loving are up to you. This live cd gives an absolute opinion about how enjoyable live performance of Scissor Sisters is.

PJ Harvey - The Piano

The ninth track from new Polly Jean Harvey Record is the best single of this week. The song is called The Piano, its mellow atmosphere which hides some anger inside of it. At the end of the track, all anger, missing come out from Pj Harvey's bitter voice, repeating "Oh God I miss you" several times. This is short and polished adult contemporary song. However, do not expect too much from lyrics they're simple, but you can put your music list where you can help the beauty of song to come out. Nobody's listening / Nobody's listening / Nobody's listening. Is it the truth of life? Yes, nobody's listening.

The Fiery Furnaces

I was having good time with some of my friends. I don't know if told you about my music obsession when i'm outside. Ha! It's just like being hungry. Simply i'm hungry for music even if i'm at bus, at a restaurant or bar. Well i'm looking for my cds like a little kid. Let's back to my story, i was having good time, talking, laughing, eating. Suddenly something help me to realize the song on my mp3 player. My Egyptian Grammar by The Fiery Furnaces, and i took my mp3 player from my bag, and put the headphones, started to listening in front of my friends. One of my friends was like a little duck which wants to attack to a white dressed pride. That was so funny, and this was the necessary influence of this band. I couldn't explain this, even i'd tried to advice for a The Fiery Furnaces listen to them. No sir, they really don't know anything about music. That was joke, go and listen your music. I loveeeeee this so much! One of the best indie rock bands in last ten years.

Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree

New Goldfrapp album Seventh Tree starts slowly. Like watching a flower growing,  the songs play softly. It sounded quite dull at my first listen. However, I love their most of the previous songs. It is up to you like this album or not. Because Goldfrapp warned us on their myspace:

"It's very different to [2005's] 'Supernature,' so it might come as a bit of a shock to some of you," said Goldfrapp's Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory on the band's MySpace page. "We had fun making it and loved doing something that is in complete contrast to the last album, even though sometimes it took a bit of courage to steer as far away as we did on some of the tunes."

'loved doing something that is in complete contrast'
This sentence makes me worried. It sounds to me that their songs can be something you may not like. I can only disappoint you, but in my opinion Seventh Tree sucks. Everyone is different. So, you decide if you like it or not.  However, I loved the two songs  'Cologne Cerrone Houdini' and the closing track 'Clowns'.
By the way, The first single to be taken from the new Goldfrapp album Seventh Tree is A&E.

Best Songs of the Year 2007

1. John Vanderslice - White Dove
Vanderslice kicks all those shitty indie rock sounds, and creates something terribly effective with his songs on Emerald City. Keep your speakers' volume on high, because no song will effect your brain like this, pure listening.

2. Of Montreal - Gronlandic Edit
I guess it would be nice to give my heart to a god \ But which one, which one do I choose? \ All the churches fill with losers, psycho or confused \ I just want to hold the divine in mind \ And forget all of the beauty's wasted. Confused lyrics and poppy sound draws a new direction to Of Montreal's music. It's been really great song, i want to dance to this everytime i hear.

3. Band Of Horses - No One's Gonna Love You
A delicious alternative country sound, an emotional vocal contrubuting, dreamy arrangements come from 2007's one of the best albums Cease To Begin.

4. Patrict Wolf - Augustine/ Magpie
We discovered entertaining side of indie rock with John Vanderslice, and we danced to Of Montreal's Gronlandic Edit. Now, we need to listen some young star which keeps our eyes wet. Of course this name should be Patrict Wolf with his Augustine and Magpie (feat. Marianne Faithfull) from The Magic Position album.

5. Fiery Furnaces - Cabaret Of The Seven Devils/ My Egyptian Grammar
A strange song that i wanted to put the list, this is Fiery Furnaces, interestingly odd and unfamiliar. You should play this song along with My Egyptian Grammar which is another song from thier latest record Widow City. Oh god, this is so great music. At the end this is wonderful music.

6. Jens Lekman - Sipping On The Sweet Nectar
His Night Falls Over Kortedala is so mellow record, and it's his best yet.

7. Blonde Redhead - Top Ranking
Blonde Redhead are always welcome to our best of list, they're hard-working and their every record is great. Top Ranking should make this list.

8. Chris Conelly - Son of Empty Sam

9. The National - Brainy

10. Panda Bear - Bros

11. Rihanna feat Jay-Z – Umbrella
This is not cheap pop music, i can give my word. On the other hand this is not influencial.

12. Battles - Leyendecker
Maybe, Mixing this great experimental rock song to a disco floor dance song would be awesome. Anyhow this is the standout Battles cut from their post-modern Mirrored record.

13. Animal Collective - Peacebone

14. Feist - My Moon My Man

15. M.I.A. – Jimmy

16. Arcade Fire – Ocean of Noise

17. LCD Soundsystem – Get Innocuous!
The heavily chorused voices that suggest backward-masking in the opener "Get Innocuous" and the captivating harmonics keyboardist Nancy Whang.

18. Amy Winehouse - Back To Black

19. The Shins - Sea Legs

20. Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Radiohead become every teenage's supernatural depressing rock band, In Rainbows doesn't offer something beautifully shocking like previous Ok Computer or The Bends. Still Jigsaw Falling Into Place calls your good and bad memories back, a strong tune.

Keane covers Queen

Keane performing a cover of the famous Queen song, "Under Pressure". It's maybe not as good as the original, but it's a great cover, i can give my word. Keane grows on me each day, they're great pop band in my view. While covering songs like "Under Pressure", nobody can't make it better than the original version. As always i'm saying that Tom Chaplin has such an amazing voice and other members have such a good talent in playing music! So you should check out this!

Japancakes - Loveless - Review

Rating: 6.5/10
Darla is proud to offer a new record from Japancakes - Athens, GA's incomparable instrumental Pop/Americana quintet. If you asked me to cover a record, My Bloody Valentine's classic effort Loveless would be a perfect choice. Japancakes did smart job, yeah they did it. Because you can find all love within this record except Kevin Shields' voice. Drugy and cloudy opener Only Swallow melts in Japancakes' hands. It's decorated with bitter cello, also end of the song is amazing, it recalls Antony and the Johnsons Hope There's Someone final. Some of them worked like a charm. Some of them didn't work at all. For example, a Sometimes cover will always work, because it's a truly perfect composition of MBV. A cover record won't be perfect, never, anyway it's one of those nice instrumental record you can sleep by its side.

Aloha - Light Works - Review

Street Date: December 4
Label: Polyvinyl
MM Rating: 9/10

Ohio's experimental rock quartet Aloha consists of guitarist/vocalist Tony Cavallario, bassist Matthew Gengler, multi-instrumentalist/percussionist Eric Koltnow, and drummer Cale Parks. With thier new EP Light Works , Aloha combines the purest form of post rock music, and this is why they sound both experimental and pop at the same time. Since thier critically acclaimed debut That's Your Fire, they use less complex drumming, complex lyrics, and make the music stronger with limpid vocals of Tony Cavallario. This is the music that i can be fan of, because discovery consists of people's nature. Discovering beauty of educated music is the main goodness why this is my recommended music. These seven songs have indeed been a clear work.

Aloha - Body Buzz
Aloha - The End

MM Picks: Body Buzz, Passengers, The End

Romantic Love Songs

Part 2
Turn the Corners...
Your words have no meanings from this point, down on the street, seeing all those playing angels on the street. You can dream your favorite tune playing on the backround, if you have imagination. A dream can change everything, that time you can love whatever you want to love. Or, you break hearts which you wanted to break hard. Now you need bass guitars, strong lyrics then you can drink all night long. What could be so magicful? It's not possible listening music together, you should know that it plays only for you. Now you listen those great notas, they gave back your imagination. Once again you're happy even if music plays bitterly.

1. Tortoise & Bonnie Prince Billy - Thunder Road (Bruce Springsteen)

2. Tim Hardin - It'll Never Happen Again

3. Blonde Redhead - Elephant Woman

4. Chet Baker - My Funny Valentine (Lorenz Hart, Richard Rodgers)

5. Cinerama - All the Things She Said (T.A.T.U. cover)

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Enola gay

"Enola Gay" is a song by British synthpop band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. It was written by frontman Andy McCluskey, and appears on the band's second album, Organisation (DinDisc/Virgin, 1980). It was released as a 7" single on 26 September 1980, and reached number 8 in the UK chart, also topping the charts in several European countries.

The song has been covered several times in 2007. Swedish artist Sommarkillen made a cover of the song called Sommartjej with new Swedish lyrics; the Danish electro-pop trio, Oliver North Boy Choir (formerly called Pierre)also recorded it. This track was posted on many MP3 blogs. In June 2007, José Galisteo released his cover of it on his debut album, Remember.

The song is named for the USAAF B-29 Superfortress which dropped the "Little Boy" atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, ostensibly to bring an end to the Second World War.

Teardrop Explodes - Peel Sessions Plus

One of the pivotal groups to emerge from the Liverpool neo-psychedelia community during the late '70s, the Teardrop Explodes was a showcase for Julian Cope, a notoriously eccentric figure whose unfashionable love of Krautrock and hallucinogenic drugs set him distinctly apart from the prevailing punk mentality of the era. A band who only officially released two albums in their lifetime (a third, 'Everybody Wants to Shag the Teardrop Explodes' was released posthumously in 1990, while there have been several compilations 'The Collection', 'The Greatest Hit', 'Piano', & 'Zoo-Ology'). And here comes another live record "Peel Sessions Plus" in 2007, Teardrop fans will love it.

Good New Songs

New Singles
1. Shins – Sea Legs
I love The Shins, even if i don't like their Wincing The Night Away which was their the weakest record. Sea Legs is a catchy track, though.

2. Estelle - Wait a Minute
the first artist to sign to John Legend record label has more than Just a Touch of talent. This girl, Estelle reminded me TLC's Lisa Left Eye Lopez,
Rest in peace Liza.

3. The National - Apartment Story [Youtube Video]
The National are one of our champions with their drunken indie rock sound.

4. Panda Bear - Comfy In Nautica [Youtube Video]

5. Justice - D.A.N.C.E [Youtube Video]

6. Alicia Keys - No-One [Youtube Video]
From her upcoming album "As I Am", Alicia Keys touches to heart of pop music lovers once again. Strong voice makes meaningful those simple lyrics, a really great voice.

7. Jape - Floating [Youtube Video]
This song was originally released in 2004 on Jape's album 'The Monkeys In The Zoo Have More Fun Than Me'.

8. Paul McCartney – Ever Past Present [Youtube Video]
Sounds like a Crap at times! Don't ask what does this mean. I'm never going to listen this song again.

9. Seal - Amazing [Youtube Video]
Unfortunately a good voice becomes the victim of bad sounds and lyrics, this won't be charming, neither good.

10. Dizzee Rascal - Flex (live concert video)

Flashback Video:
TLC - Waterfalls
A classic hit from "Crazysexycool" in 1994.

Hable Con Ella: Talk To Her

I like this movie its the kind of movie I like to watch on a Sunday morning. One of my favorite words go in this movie. Like in life, every end comes so hard, and pathetic. You shouldn't believe in words like ' They live happy forever', because this won't happen. Love can be so bitter, it doesn't matter if it's a men or woman, love is everywhere. In the movie, you see a cross between three beautiful person Benigno, Alicia and Marco. And in time Benigno and Marco become close friends, bonding in their shared devotion to women who cannot return their affection.

Some Favorite Pedro AlmodĂ³var Songs:

Mina - Esperame en el cielo
Maysa Mataraso - Ne me quitte pas
La lupe - Puro teatro
DĂºo dinĂ¡mico - ResistirĂ©
Hable con ella - Hable con ella

Enon - Grass Geysers Carbon Clouds - Review

Rating: 9/10
Enon could be one of the most interesting bands of indie rock era, but, they only continued releasing some nice records, and unfortunatelly they couldn't reach to any gold status. If you listen to their music, you'll say what make White Stripes, The Killers or Coldplay more famous than this great rock band. They sound like crap most of time, however everybody say they're good! I want to say thing gets worse years by years on music industry. They are not able to sell many records like in the past years, live performances became the main way to earn money. And they need some backup to perform on cool places to reach more audience. I haven't recieved any mail from Enon' s record campany Touch & Go, but they should reach people like us who willing to write about these bands. Grass Geysers Carbon Clouds seems to be Enon's the most solid, danceable, loveable and enjoyable record. Sure, Believo! and High Society still exist in my favorite indie rock records archive, you should listen them!

Enon - Mirror On You
Enon - Dr. Freeze
Enon - Labyrinth

MM picks: Dr. Freeze, Law Of Johnny Dolittle, Mr. Ratatatatat
