Joni Mitchell's Shine

Shine is the seventeenth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell and was released on September 25, 2007 by Starbucks' Hear Music. Some says she's the single most important female singer-songwriter of the 20th Century, i say no one can be the only one. For me, every single artists come with their unique talents, and chosing a top between them isn't always true. It's not hard to think that Shine can't be like any previous classic Mitchell records. However great mellow tunes can be found on Shine, like amazing "If," or "Night Of The Iguana,", these are song for relaxing, lyrics are truly inspiring. That's the most beautiful side of her voice, it recalls peace back to my room.

Reign Over Me

Reign Over Me is a 2007 drama film written and directed by Mike Binder. The film stars Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith, Liv Tyler, Donald Sutherland, Saffron Burrows and Binder himself. The reason of being my favorite film is close and striking role of Adam Sandler. A good film, but it also features modern tunes, original soundtrack written by Rolfe Kent. You can some famous tunes in the movie at times. The title of the film comes from the song "Love, Reign o'er Me" by The Who. The song appears on the film's soundtrack along with a cover version recorded specifically for the film by Pearl Jam. Also, the song that plays in the trailer on TV is Ashes by UK band Embrace.

Graham Nash - Simple Man
Jackson Browne - The Birds Of St. Marks

Puressence - Dont Forget To Remember

2007 release of the band's fourth studio album that was recorded at Revolution Studios in their hometown of Manchester, England. The sessions were produced by Andy Macpherson. Dont Forget To Remember seemed a strong record on first listen, then i discovered my admiration because of a new song of them. The song is called "Don't Know Any Better," what a strong tune, isn't it. By the way, it calls a song by Morrissey "Let Me Kiss You" from his You Are the Quarry record. I'd want to say good things for the rest of Dont Forget To Remember, unfortunately
it ain't bad or good.

Dave Gahan's Hourglass

Honestly, yes i liked the new Dave Gahan single, Kingdom. His new solo record is another crap record for me like his previous solo, and the album is more electronic than Paper Monsters. I want be clear i've no problem with its producing, electronic beats, but it's totally exhausting record, this is clear it can't be good electronic record. I'm with previous Depeche Mode songs, no more Dave Gahan solo records. "Kingdom", "Down" and another track from the new record "Use You" are cool. What was that? Hourglass is near industrial craps, Dave's tired, i tired, you don't need to be tired. 21 Days destructed all of my dreams and Miracles fucked me all around, a quite spiritless record. Hourglass is scheduled to be released on October 22, 2007 in Europe, and October 23, 2007 in the US.

Tracklist:
01 - Saw Something
02 - Kingdom
03 - Deeper and Deeper
04 - 21 Days
05 - Miracles
06 - Use You
07- Insoluble
08 - Endless
09 - A Little Lie
10 - Down

Favorite songs for autumn

1. Cocteau Twins - Musette And Drums
One of the most flawless Cocteau piece, actually you can say every Cocteau Twins song is flawless. This timeless band, this timeless vocals of Elizabeth and her ex-Husband Robin Guthrie's dark guitar, oh no this band is truly timeless.

2. Bob Mould - Wishing Well
As being member one of the most influential American band Husker Du, Bob Mould has also released couple of great solo records. This is from acoustic nature of Bob Mould's first solo album, Workbook. A perfect tune for autumns.

3. Elliott Smith - Alameda
Do not get me wrong, Elliott Smith can be listened on every season, but, particularly i love Alameda, its nature and its simple beauty. Elliott Smith is the main indie icon of 90s, that's why his every record sounds perfect, there is nothing crap.

4. Mojave 3 - Got My Sunshine
I promised myself not doing complains about why some great songs or records couldn't make any success, but i give my word, Mojave 3 is one of a kind band (of course after Slowdive). After listening this brooding love torch, you'll thank to me(i hope).

5. Inspiral Carpets - Move
This is again successful but underrated at the same time. You should check their Life album which was a great found for me at the first listening. Life is still precious record to me, and i share one of my fav. cut with you.

6. Nico - All That Is My Own

7. Brian Eno - Golden Hours

8. Lambchop - Life's little tragedy

9. Antony And The Johnsons - Fistful Of Love (with Lou Reed)
No doubt, Antony And The Johnsons is the best thing after Lou Reed, Soft Cell, Jeff Buckley and Bryan Ferry. Be careful with that, these are quite important names.

10. Final Fantasy - Many Lives - 49 MP

I'm ending up the list with an amazing live video of Musette And Drums, this performance by Cocteau Twins was recorded live on TV in the UK in late 1983. I hope you liked the new layout.

Best New Music Singles

New Singles
1. Dave Gahan - Kingdom
The official promo video for "Kingdom" by Dave Gahan. Taken from the album 'Hourglass'. Directed by Jaron Albertin. I'm not a diehard Depeche Mode fan but Dave Gahan's those charismatic and pretty jackets. The previous and his first solo record Paper Monsters (2003) was a little shitty record. I hope this new album "Hourglass" will be good, so Kingdom's melody and video both sound pretty amazing. Lights are everywhere, in garage, in houses, even in Dave Gahan's mouth!

2. Super Furry Animals - Run-Away
SFA comes with totally 80s style video, and this song is very similar to any Pulp songs. It's one of the best singles of this year, don't miss this!

3. Katie Melua – If You Were A Sailboat
The video for Katie Melua's new single, filmed in Prague and directed by Babanuki. 'If You Were A Sailboat' is released on September 24th, from the forthcoming album 'Pictures' released on October 1st.

4. Les Savy Fav - What Wolves Would Do

5. Ali Campbell – Hold Me Tight
Running Free', the new album from UB40's frontman Ali Campbell, is a reggae-soul-pop tour de force. [Youtube Video]

6. Stereophonics – It Means Nothing
I wonder why Stereophonics have turned to this very boring British band.

7. Annie Lennox – Dark Road

8. Puppini Sisters – Spooky
Rough cut of the new video from the Puppini Sisters for their brilliant cover of Dusty Springfield's 'Spooky', created by the video stalwarts at Fold7, from the Sisters new album The Rise and Fall of Ruby Woo. [Youtube Video]
9. Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight

10. James Blunt - 1973

90s Romantic Songs

Part 1
I believe that a music blog should let the readers know about unspotted talents, don't think that a small post can do anything about this. I know everytime i write about these songs, there is someone out there to listen them.

Silver Jews - Ballad of reverend War Character
I can't tell how beautiful this song is, just listen to it. It's very simple and incredibly romantic and dramatic. I like the songs which remind us our feelings, that's great!

Nico - You Forgot To Answer
The song is from Hanging Gardens 1990, i'm not tired of saying Nico's amazing talent on this blog. This is gloomy more than anything you can listen if you also read about her life, her death. This version of You Forgot To Answer is the most pathetic, reminds you there is always someone there waits for your help. They say she sings this song for The Doors vocalist Jim Morrison.

Grant McLennan - Haven't I Been A Fool
He just wrote some amazing songs, but unfortunately he died last year. He was former member of The Go-Betweens which never achieved gold status even if the band was better then R.E.M. I don't know, i never believe to the words like 'You get what you deserve, If you work hard'. Because sometimes they just don't want to give that something you deserve.

Cranes - Shining Road
For me, Cranes was one of the most original lines of 90s, people don't want to support them, though. Powerful vocals, brilliant and dreamy music like driving car under city lights.

Cranes - Adoration

Lost Highway

Spooky and cool--those two words pretty much sum up this soundtrack for David Lynch's stranger-than-usual movie. It's a mix of hard-edged techno-industrial, slightly spooky jazz, and orchestral compositions from Angelo Badalamenti. David Bowie's "I'm Deranged" is a major highlight, proving once again that he is the coolest man on the planet. Badalamenti's instrumental tracks are reminiscent of Elliot Goldenthal's Interview with the Vampire soundtrack, although "Dub Driving" sounds like an accompaniment to Sam Spade. Sandwiched between a pair of tense city-thriller tracks by Barry Adamson, Lou Reed's rendition of "This Magic Moment" acquires its own disturbing dimension, but the most entertaining track on this CD is, without a doubt, Marilyn Manson's rendition of "I Put a Spell on You." It's not exactly party music, but it's loaded with atmosphere.

David Bowie - I'm Deranged
The Smashing Pumpkins - Eye

Ian Brown - The World Is Yours

Rating: 7/10
After one of British best band the Stone Roses, Brown released couple of solo records like amazing Golden Greats (2000) or the previous mellow Solarized (2004), sure these aren't enough for such an amazing idol. Some of us have a response for the wars, some of us don't. Now we've The World Is Yours which is a complete protest record consists of twelve tracks including the first single Illegal Attacks with Sinead O'Connor. Brown has enlisted the help of The Smiths and Happy Mondays' bassists Andy Rourke and Paul Ryder respectively, also legendary Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook. There are really good tracks, but political lyrics really don't make a record awesome or masterpiece. Someone must stop the war, that someone becomes all of us. I agree totally Ian Brown about Illegal Attacks, but tunes on the record are boring and repeating at times. The song named Eternal Flame reminds a hip hop song Familly Affair by Mary J. Blige, that's interesting. The whole record comes with beats, loops, some hooky electric guitars.
MM picks: Eternal Flame, Sweet Children

Ian Brown - Eternal Flame
Ian Brown - Illegal Attacks

Kevin Ayers - The Unfairground

You already know me, i almost became the new good music catcher, and that makes me feel good. So i have Kevin Ayers' brand new record on my hands, The Unfairground. It's been fifteen years since his last album, as P4k reported before, he needed help after long years for bringing a good record. So who becomes the angel to help our poor little Kevin Ayers: Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera, the Ladybug Transistor's Gary Olson, members of Architecture in Helsinki Julian Koster of Neutral Milk Hotel, the former member of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake and Francis MacDonald, (ok i got little bored tp countin' the names), Elephant 6-affiliated cellist Heather McIntosh, Daisy Martey of the Noonday Underground, Psychedelic Furs keyboardist Joe McGinty, songwriter Candie Payne, folkie legend Bridget St. John, and enough other folks to round out a Rolodex. Oh my god, that means so many help, what did you do Kevin Ayers?, please explain it. Anyway, i loved the new record. Despite its short playing about 34 minutes, this can find the year's best music with coffee, so melancholic and imperturbable. Fantastic harmonies, instrumentation, mellow lyrics.

Kevin Ayers - Cold Shoulder
Kevin Ayers - Only Heaven Knows

Coming up New Music

New Singles
1. Chris Conelly - Son of Empty Sam
As the second track of Chris Connelly's new album, Episodes, "Son of Empty Sam" hails as an exemplary track to the folk-jazz experimental style adopted for this unique and timeless collection. Chris Connelly provides awesome music for nights if you are looking for some interesting and hooky music. At the same time, it's not only for nights, it also shows how an artists can make totally artistic and characteristic music. "Son of Empty Sam" becomes one of MM's favorite songs in 2007, and sure The Episodes will exist on our the most striking music of the year.

2. PJ Harvey - When Under Ether

3. Ian Brown and Sinead O'Connor - Illegal Attacks
If Ian Brown with Sinead O'Connor make a song about pathetic war that goes on in the world now, we sure are with him, sucker politicians don't use the great people (soldiers) for your satisfaction.

4. Kraftwerk – Aerodynamik / La Forme
Amazing Kraftwerk live video from Minimum-Maximum DVD, watch the video carefully
bcause camera distances are almost perfect.

5. Babyshambles – Delivery

6. Interpol - No I in Threesome

7. Leann Rimes - Nothing Better To Do

8. Milburn - What Will You Do When the Money Goes?
This is almost full copy of Arctic Monkeys, voice, guitar hooks, hairstyle, and everything.

9. Pet Shop Boys – Integral

10. Digitalism – Idealistic

Video Flashback!
John Vanderslice - Exodus Damage
Please pay attention to this kind of precious artists, listen their music, go their concerts. Their music must live! His new record Emerald City is a great record from 2007. And this is a fantastic John Vanderslice video for Exodus Damage off the album Pixel Revolt. Dance Dance Revolution-All we're gonna get-Unless it falls apart-So I say: go, go, go, go down-Let it fall down
I'm ready for the end.

Are You Trying To Be Lonely by Paul Weller was the best single of previous week.

Devendra Banhart - Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon

Recorded in Topanga Canyon in the Santa Monica mountains. This is now a bit different from Banhart's pyedecelic folk works expect two or three song. Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon is much like a classic rock record, you'll hear long great guitar driven rock songs, for example the key track "Seahorse" where memorable electric guitars work hard. Some songs are influenced by latin or tropical music like previous Banheart songs...Luna de Margarita, Santa Maria de Feira and Devendra adds another weird song to these, it's Samba Vexillographica. Banhart's audience continued to expand, And he loves Elvis Presley that's why he's trying to sing like Elvis on song named Shabop Shalom. Good try Mr. Banhart. This is quite old school, Smokey Rolls Down... deserves a listen, though.

Band of Horses - Cease To Begin

Rating: 9.0
Holding strong my umbrella, with thankfully smile to the faunders of those little mp3 players, Band of Horses on my headphones, i'm walking to my way. Is there anything i can do if there is a good record in front of me, surely i can't do anything. That's my the weakest side, that's my weakest side if it's playing emotional good music. The previous record Everything All the Time was great, but this is another great record. Second records don't always come like that good. "The Funeral", "Our swords" and "Wicked Gil" are the keytracks of the previous record. We now have "Is There a Ghost", "Ode to Lrc" and "The General Specific" ! Everybody plays guitar, but believe me this kind of broken, bitter voice is one of a kind.

Band of Horses - No One Is Gonna Love You

MM picks: Is There a Ghost, Ode to Lrc, The General Specific

Ultravox - Vienna

Ultravox - Vienna

Vienna

We walked in the cold air -
Freezing breath on the window pain
Lying waiting

A man in the dark in the picture frame
So mystic and soulful.
A voice reaching out and a piercing cry

It stays with you until
The feeling is gone
only you and I
This means nothing to me

This means nothing to me

Oh Vienna -

The music is weaving -
Haunting notes pizzicato strings

The rhythm is calling
Alone in the night as the daylight brings a cold empty silence
The warmth of your hand and a cold grey sky

It fades to the distance.

The image is gone
only you and I
This means nothing to me
This means nothing to me

Oh Vienna -

This means nothing to me
This means nothing to me

Oh Vienna.

Midlake - Oak and Julian EP

On September 4th Midlake will release a digital EP called Oak and Julian, a small collection of rarities and b-sides from the last few years. The EP does include the older track, “Mornings Will Be Kind,” off of the Balloon Maker 7¨. The song, which my brother-in-law (and Midlake superfan) always refers to as “Follow You Around” because of the repeated refrain, is a throwback to their Bella Union debut, the lo-fi, Grandaddy-esque Bamnan & Silvercork. You'll fall in love with this new acustic version of Roscoe.

Tracklist:
1. Roscoe (Acoustic Version)
2. It Covers The Hillside (Acoustic Version)
3. Marion

Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedala

This is great! I was waiting a good album to write a concerned blog post. Believe me, doing a blog writing even if you have no desire is something you can't stand for. When i hear a new great record, the words flow that way. You love talking about something worthy, this is what i inspired writing on great music records, and this is why i'm trying to learn this language for.

Maybe, Night Falls Over Kortedala is only a record. But, i spent my rainy day with him yesterday under beautiful, peaceful rain. I said him because Night Falls Over Kortedala has a personality which can be your friend on peaceful nights. How can i say, this is really the best sad music, and what i like the most is that it's also the best happy music.

Jens Lekman - Into Eternity
Jens Lekman - The Opposite of Hallelujah

MM reader's best music of 2007

Thanks for your vote, the result is Arcade Fire and The National are both huge on us! And also you like M.I.A. and Panda Bear's. As you can see these were all different genres, but we saw that music has no genres at all. This is all about the best presentation.

  3. M.I.A. - Kala

  5. Thurston Moore - Trees Outside The Academy

Fresh Indie Hits

I wanna write here a comment that i like a lot from a reader on my "10 Greatest British Album Ever" post. I don't know, he's right about on what's he believes in, music which is so relative! here comes a small part of that comment:

'If I had to choose one album to define the soundtrack of my life, ‘Young Americans’ would be it: heartache, devastation, beauty, cynicism and drama contained in just eight songs; life’s rich tapestry in all its vacillating, disingenuous glory.'

Thank You, it's a great comment. And i wanna share Young Americans video with you.
