Rock Music Singles

1. The Last Shadow Puppets - Standing Next To Me
Back to early Scott Walker days, no iphones, no plasma tvs and mobile phones but there was simpleness, kind and happiness. You can listen the song on their official Myspace page.

2. Robert Pollard - No One But I
I think this is one of the most hooky song on "robert pollard is off to business". Mr. Pollard reminds amazing Husker Du track "New Day Rising" with the new song.

Another nice, strong and mesmerizing Travis song. Listen it on their Myspace.

Alanis Morissette - Flavors of Entanglement (2008)

Rating: 4/10
Alanis Morissette was one of stars of the mid-'90s, with her only good record and debut Jagged Little Pill (1995). All I Really Want, You Oughta Know, Hand in My Pocket, Head over Feet, Ironic are all classic Alanis songs from this record. Then, during 15 years she only sing these songs live, because other records are already unplugged or acustic record for these same songs. Then Alanis Morissette decided to cut her very long hair, she released a colorless album, it was So-Called Chaos (2004). It didn't get any attention again.

Flavors Of Entanglement is title of the new album. This sounds almost horrible horror films, starting some songs like lame industrial music. Then, it rapidly slows down with a few love song such as Not As We, Torch. It goes to slow down and down. With the song Moratorium, the sound changes to oriental music and dark beats again. And also lyrics are so common. I don't get it why the records are so terrible in these days.

Highlights: Straitjacket, Moratorium

Alanis Morissette - Underneath

Robert pollard - Robert Pollard is Off to Business (2008)

Rating: 7/10
Guided By Voices man Robert pollard is on to make another occult indie rock record. All i can say is you can find some nice moments on his educated and weird rock music. He's actually both great singer and songwriter, people probably don't have time to listen to the records.

We listen some music and complain why this music can't reach to many people. I think this is totally wrong, everyone should listen what she or he likes. You can't make them to listen this record with your words, or it's possible that ... maybe.

Highlights: Gratification to Concrete, No One But I

Robert Pollard - The original heart

Track Listing:
01 The Original Heart
02 The Blondes
03 1 Years Old
04 Gratification To Concrete

10 Wealth And Hell Being

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement

Rating:8/10
The Age Of The Understatement is a side project of Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner and Arcade Fire arranger Owen Pallets. Most of first impressions may say that 'This sounds better than a side project'.

The sound of the late 60's, nostalgy, impressive vocal performance of the young vocal, melodic guitar chords, prolific songwriting, deserve your sympathy for this new project. It's definitely successful record. I'm sure this will put in some dark songs to Arctic Monkeys' following album. Because i smell of some Scott Walker and Lee Hazlewood magic. I mean The Last Shadow Puppets loves oldies.

Some songs are short and suffocating here, but that doesn't mean that they're not memorable. Turners' songwriting skill moves the tunes one step forward, then Arctic Monkeys fan should get this orchestral pop album.

Maps - The Wick And The Fire (2008)

Rating: 2.5/10
Maps' the most embrassing, spotty record i've heard. The Wick And The Fire is totally trash, my headaches are growing, because this experimental shit sounds work of some college students who don't know how to play guitar. If you try to make bizarre music, you should put something interesting to it at least. You can make a lot of noise in the name of music, but it should has some crucial sections. I want my wasted time back! This is not good, but the previous record wasn't good too. Who listen to this? Some independent movie companies?

MM picks: Reverse Telescope, Synergy

Maps - Failure Of Constancy

Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro (2008)

Rating: 8/10
Most producers and artists give the love back to basics. What i mean is recovering 60s pop tunes is so popular right now. Names such as Amy Winehouse, Gnarls Barkley, Sam sparro, Christina Aguilera are successful examples.

A producer, songwriter and performer, and former child actor Sam Sparro (born Sam Falson November 8th 1984 in Sydney, Australia) combines old-fashioned gospel vocals onto electronic or indie electronic music, whatever you call the backround music on his top charter "Black and Gold". I already put the single number 1 on MM singles of the week. Today, i had a change listening his full self-titled record. In my opinion, first spin is the most important thing to write your review. The debut contains many chart climber songs, and this sounds like a best of compilation of VA best of disco. Chaka Khan is also one of the first admirers of him. I stay and listen many artists from Tim Hardin to Nico, Mary J. Blige to Amy Winehouse, and George Michael to Sam Sparro. He looks like George Michael, his gay look, amazing R&B vocals, danceable hits. However the debut ain't my recommended music. It can't be, you see i'm so selfish about music. I know which record is the best and which is not!

The album shows itself, it's better than listening Madonna's shitty, painful Hard Candy. Finally it's amazing like Amy Winehouse's Back to Black, Rihanna's "Good girl gone Bad" or Lilly Allen's "Alright, Still..." but good pop dance record.

Plus official Sam Sparro page is quite glam here:

MM picks: Black and Gold, 21st Century Life, Sick, Cut Me Loose

Other Recommended Indie Records:
Pop Levi - Never Never Love
Ladytron - Velocifero

Sam Sparro - Black and Gold

Sigur Rós - Inn Í Mér Syngur Vitleysingur

Rating:8.5/10
I really got into this amazing new Sigur Ros record, this is surely best new music. Reminding big and iconic names such as Beach Boys, ELO, Brian Eno, this is their the most accessible record yet. Without leaving complexity of experimental rock, Inn Í Mér Syngur Vitleysingur covers a lot dreamy vocal on the songs. You don't understand the language, you like it anyway. Dancing of the rhythms, heavy-strings, peace, cold, music, all are up here. Like the news say on their website, it's a nice way to start a sunday.

You can listen to a full stream of “með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust” right now here.

Weezer - The Greatest Man That Ever Lived Lyrics
Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone Lyrics

Sebastian Tellier - Sexuality

I'm loving his new album, i also watched his performance for France in Eurovision song contest 2008. It was a nice show, but you know the contest is always so politic. Music loses its power, we lost love to give attention to music. By the way, nice artwork with hairy pussy haha.

Martha Wainwright - I Know You're Married

Rating:8.5/10
Martha Wainwright's secondary record opens to lyrics "I've got feelings too, And I still love you" Looking to this one like another avarage singer's new record would be a mistake. I have lots of thing to say about this sweet-kinda voice. When it comes to say something about music, it only becomes like it's amazing or its not. Being sister of Rufus Wainwright who is romantic prince of pop music, she actually doesn't keep same sound with his brother. Of course, this is a romantic record. On the other hand she's a female and there are really different points of view between female and male. Not only she has sexy legs, she also uses the right weapon about love, that's how girls are good at seeing every sight of romance. "I Know You're Married" pieces together all the reproofs, and the singer gives that strong emotion. Martha covers Pink Floyd's "See Emily Play" and the Eurythmics' "Love Is A Stranger". Also, a dark natured duet with Rufus Wainwright "Tower Song" makes stronger and studied the record much more.

Writing about good music seems to me a lot selfish, it can only disappoint you. However, "I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too" is one of that rare albums that you can listen again and again from the beginning.

MM picks: Bleeding All Over You, You Cheated Me, Tower Song, So Many Friends

Martha Wainwright - Comin' Tonight

you can listen the album on Martha Wainwright official page.

Joan As Police Woman - To Survive

It's not possible to miss Joan As Police Woman, the great female singer, the great new record. "To Survive" is so depressed, you can see it on the artwork. To Be Loved is my choice that you listen her some best vocal performance on this track.

Joan As Police Woman - To Be Loved(MM pick!)

Colin Meloy - Sings Live
