Cat Power - Jukebox

Jukebox is the eighth album by American singer/songwriter Chan Marshall (a.k.a. Cat Power). Except for "Song To Bobby", the album is comprised entirely of cover songs. Chan Marshall stops time. She sits at a piano or lays her guitar across her lap, and whether it’s a noisy club overflowing with drunks or a coffee house full of laptoppers, Chan Marshall draws all the attention in the room and makes the world stop spinning. As Cat Power, Marshall’s music seems to rise from nowhere, envelop the room, then vanish; listeners know they’ve been hit by something but they’re not sure what.

According to Matador Records, there will be a limited-edition silver foil deluxe package containing a bonus disc with five extra songs. You can download and listen my track picks from Jukebox. Song To Bobby sounds perfect, a very new mellow tune like we used to listen from her. Other new song which is called "Metal Heart" a very passionate rock ballad, you know Cat Power doesn't disappoint. If you ask me to say which cover is the best, it's originally by Joni Mitchell, yes the song is Blue. One of the best song of all time.

Guest appearances: Spooner Oldham (Neil Young, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan), Larry McDonald (Toots & The Maytals, Taj Mahal), Teenie Hodges (Al Green, Memphis Rhythm Band), and Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Will Oldham).

Jukebox tracklist:
1. New York (Frank Sinatra)
2. Ramblin’ (Wo)man (Hank Williams)
3. Metal Heart (Cat Power *)
4. Silver Stallion (The Highwaymen)
5. Aretha, Sing One For Me (George Jackson)
6. Lost Someone (James Brown)
7. Lord, Help The Poor And Needy (Jessie Mae Hemphill)
8. I Believe In You (Bob Dylan)
9. Song To Bobby (new song of Cat Power **) removed by label request
10. Don’t Explain (Billie Holiday)
11. Woman Left Lonely (Janis Joplin)
12. Blue ( soulfull Joni Mitchell cover)

Scritti Politti - Wood Beez

I can copy-paste another Amg Song Review, shouldn't i? Because this song cheers me up. Brilliant, shining, perfect with what it has got. Review says most of all, and i can only ad some mp3 and video in plus. Enjoy with best music on The MM blog.

One of the most brilliant synth-dance singles of all time, "Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)" is a pinnacle of the form. The arrangement, by singer/songwriter Green Gartside and his co-conspirators David Gamson and Fred Maher, combines with Arif Mardin's seamless production into a textbook example of how to make a dance track that's so kinetic that it's impossible not to move to, but so clever and rich-sounding that it's equally fun to listen to alone on headphones with the lights off. Gartside's lyrics are among his most allusive and playful, mixing soul homage and his usual hyperactive wordplay, and his helium-pitched vocal style (imagine Boy George channeling the prepubescent Michael Jackson) is one of the most bizarre and wonderful musical personas of its era. Not a US chart hit, but a dancefloor classic, "Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)" is a frothy, almost silly masterpiece.

Kurt Cobain - About A Son

For this unique film, director AJ Schnack assembled selections from the Azerrad interviews and merged them with newly filmed, evocative imagery of the three cities in Washington state that played a major role in Cobain's life: Aberdeen, Olympia and Seattle. Shot entirely on 35mm film, Schnack brings the Northwest to life in vivid detail: the logging industry where CobainÕs father worked, the small bars where local bands played their first shows, the endlessly overcast sky.

These impressionistic images, many of which were filmed in locations that were key to Cobain's life -- his home, apartment, school, record label, etc. -- are set to an evocative original score by noted Northwest musician and producer Steve Fisk, who produced Nirvana's Blew EP, and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Benjamin Gibbard, as well as the music of more than 20 artists who influenced or touched Cobain during his life, from childhood favorites Arlo Guthrie and Queen, to the influential punk bands Bad Brains and Big Black, to his Sub Pop contemporaries Mudhoney and Mark Lanegan to legendary music figures Iggy Pop, David Bowie and R.E.M.

Love Is All - Love Is All Mixed Up

2008 mini album featuring a selection of remixes of songs from their debut album Nine Times That Same Song, reinterpreted by their contemporaries. This remixes can be my winter dance favorites. Because they sound so good. Felt Tip (Hot Chip Remix) combines beauty of female voice and space beats, the song is really a masterpiece with the saxophone final. The Bees deliver a tough and straight up Funk version of 'Make Out Fall Out Make Up'. Othercontributions include Metronomy's killer mix of 'Spinning And Scratching' and Tapedeck's DIY Rave take on 'Busy Doing Nothing' plus other stunning remixes by Chicken Lips, Optimo, Maps, Fryars and Studio. Parlophone. Without doubt, Love Is All Mixed Up can be highly recommended to every independent electronic music listener as best new music. Every song in this record sound professionally good.

The Shins

In the late 1990s, the Albuquerque indie-rock band Flake Music morphed into the Shins, led by vocalist-guitarist James Mercer. Upon the release of 2001's Oh, Inverted World, the Shins garnered a landslide of critical acclaim with their amiable, 1960s-influenced power-pop. Subsequent touring further raised the group's profile, and their eagerly awaited sophomore album, Chutes Too Narrow, revealed another set of clever and quirky pop-rock ditties. James Mercer's voice has also grown in strength. James Mercer really knows now just where to bring a certain tone to the song to hit you right in the heart. The Shins had never before hit higher than number 86 on the Billboard charts, but i love them and they're surely one of the best 2000s indie rock bands.

Britney Spears - Blackout - Review

Rating: 8.5/10

Really? Legendary Britney Spears impressed me as a young female singer, but this time not with her scandals in magazine industry. This time she releases a good record which is comprised of modern pop, disco and electronic music. I don't think like she's a falling star, she has learned a lot from making mistakes. For a pop star like Britney, the first single Gimme More maybe can't be a good reborn. You're right if you think this record is good because of those important names in writing and mixing the record. Anyway, she sings with her soul, she improved her taste in music, she's again a big teen idol, this time much stronger. Radar which song recalls glourous 80s back and it becomes one of the keytracks. It sounds like Soft Cell's Tainted Love cover. Maybe, her overdosed private life on everywhere hides the beauty of this record, i'll recommend this album to anyone loves modern pop music. Listening pop music doesn't make you an idiot, and "rock" isn't cool much as you think. It's the music which helps to put some extra happiness to your life, not the genre. Why Should I Be Sad closes the whole record with its dark, sexy sound, and depressed lyrics. Blackout is great for dancing, the best album of her career.

Britney Spears - Heaven On Earth
Britney Spears - Why Should I Be Sad

MM picks: Radar, Heaven On Earth, Why Should I Be Sad

Bat For Lashes - What's A Girl To Do

I've been listening this song since three months because of its quality, Bat For Lashes got my heart with this song. The video charted in P4K's Top 50 Music Videos of 2007 list (i think it should be the number one!). They're right on this one, a great video! The pitchfork review:

Bat for Lashes' Natasha Khan is upfront about her influences on "What's a Girl to Do", from the ever-ubiquitous "Be My Baby" opening to the melodramatic Shangri-Las spoken-word verses. But there's a gothic ominousness, too, in the recently released single's minor chord harmonies and sparse keyboards. This Dougal Wilson-directed video follows the Brighton, UK-based Khan across one long continuous shot. You never forget how to ride a bicycle, maybe, but you certainly never forget the sight of animal-masked cyclists pulling off synchronized jumps.

A beautiful day...Christmas Vol 3.

My choice of christmas songs sound interesting, you'll love these strange songs from great names.

Over The Rhine - All I Ever Get For Christmas Is Blue
Over the Rhine's new effort Snow Angels is quite melancholic record that i highly recommend, and this down tune comes from the same record.

Cardinal - If You Believe In Christmas Trees
Cardinal was a one-off project from singers/songwriters Richard Davies and Eric Matthews. The song is included in their self-titled and only studio record.

Yello - Jingle Bells
Do not give up reading my blog after listening this song, it's quite funny!

The White Stripes - Candy Cane Children
Released in 2002, the Merry Christmas from… The White Stripes 7¨ features the fan club favourite “Candy Cane Children” as well as the bizarre “The Reading of the Story of the Magi” and “The Singing of Silent Night”, which are exactly just that.

Bright Eyes - God Red Ye Merry Gentlemen
This is a lovely song from Bright Eyes' Christmas album (2002).

Sun Ra - It's Christmas Time
The best things about playlist are opening the list with a down tempo and ending up the list with bizarre song. I love this!

Beach House - Devotion - Review

Rating: 8/10

I want the world to hear them, because they deserve success. For a band there is nothing more miserable than an exhausted desire. You create music, but your talent is not recognized. We should be grateful for amazing under rated bands for creating such great music. That's why I love the art of music so much! Baltimore dream pop duo, Beach House, produce another great record. It is plain dream pop music but fulfilled with emotion. The openers ‘Wedding Bell’ and ‘Gila’ are the standout songs.

As you know, the self-titled Beach House was one of the most blogged album of last year. Organs, percussion, and guitar echo around you. Actually, their songs are pretty relaxing, and you just let it play. Victoria Legrand keeps her tone of voice exactly the same on every song, which can be dull at times. I think she's a big fan of Nico, and has a similar voice. Nico, in my opinion is one of the most important female names in rock music history. The album is original and it makes you dreamy on those winter nights.

MM picks: Wedding Bell, Gila, All The Years, D.A.R.L.I.N.G.

Top 5 Rock Singles

The MM presents the new music of love! Enjoy, have a drink!

New Singles

1. Destroyer - Foam Hands
Destroyer's Rubies was one of the best record of last year. It was very beautiful listenning Rubies in hot summer nights. Lush guitar harmonies, Dan Bejar's bitter voice, and a little artist dust are the main reason why i believed in this name. Foam Hands is another perfect piece which blow my mind. I hope it makes the same impact on you.

2. Eric Matthews - Little 18
Oh Eric Matthews, it's the single name that i'll recognize everytime i hear that words 'charming pop music'. Yes he did great job with new song Little 18, one of the greatest melancholic tune of this year, of course along with Chris Conelly's Every Ghost Has An Orchestra.

3. Les Savy Fav - Brace Yourself

4. Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor [Youtube Video]

5. British Sea Power - Waving Flags [Youtube Video]

Blancmange - Love Your Love

This video used to make me smile so much and I'm happy posting it. Blancmange is one of the most underrated bands in the pop history. This video was briefly featured in the movie "Flight of the Navigator", in the scene when David is at NASA, in a secured room. Sarah Jessica Parker's character told David, what have you never seen a music video before?

Alternative New Music

New Singles
1. The Thermals - Returning to the Fold

2. Interpol - No I In Threesome
Here comes one of the best Interpol tracks. The voice and the melody captures you from start to end, and you can not say this is bad, it's quite great.

4. Xiu Xiu - Yo Yo Bye Bye (Why? cover)

Frank Black

I love him, do i need to add extra information? Inverting his stage name from Black Francis to Frank Black, the former Pixies lead singer/songwriter embarked on a solo career after he broke up the band in early 1993; actually, he began recording his solo album before he told the band the news. And this wasn't an unfortunate decision, because every band should come to its end after releasing sufficiently good records. Like The Rolling Stones, The Who or any other bands who still try to make same records, that lacks of being legend. The Pixies are the legend, and Frank Black is still one of the best rock icons.

Scissor Sisters - Hurrah! A Year of Ta-Dah

These 19 song recorded during live show in 2007, at London's 02, along with a behind the scenes documentary of the Scissor Sisters on the tour itself. I'm not a big Scissor fan myself, i like some of their songs, though. I like their nice Comfortably Numb cover, or their great brit-pop oriented song I Can't Decide. Their sound vision perfectly fits with showily dressed clothings, make-up, and femininity, this proves the inspirition by burlesque, drag queens, and glam rock. As always, i present music and give an opinion about it, listening and loving are up to you. This live cd gives an absolute opinion about how enjoyable live performance of Scissor Sisters is.

Scissor Sisters - She's My Man (Live At The 02, London)
Scissor Sisters - I Can't Decide (Live At The 02, London) (MM pick!)
