Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle

Bill Callahan keeps writing his melancholic songs, after spending his 20 years with "Smog" albums. Now he releases his second great album under his own name. Woke on a Whaleheart has been a great record, and Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle moves his music one step beyond, including glamorous cinematic music, piano, violins and many heartbreaker instruments.

This is completely natural, gloomy and deep music.

My Chemical Romance - Desolation Row

My Chemical Romance's Desolation Row (2009) new song from Watchmen OST

Now that the legal clash between super studios over the highly anticipated Watchmen movie has been settled, fans have gotten their first taste of music from the Watchmen soundtrack, as the video for My Chemical Romance’s redo of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" made its debut on iTunes last week on January 30 for $1.99. As the hype ramps up for the release of Watchmen on March 6, the availability of My Chemical Romance’s "Desolation Row" on iTunes gives both movie and music lovers a taste of what's to come on "Watchmen: Music From the Motion Picture", which will be released three days prior to Watchmen on the big screen.

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

When I first discovered them, they sang the great song "Too Young". Now, The French band Phoenix releases their fifth studio record "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix". It's Never Been Like That is their the most ambitious album for sure. And first single of that album "Long Distance Call" still exists on my playlist.

The most recent single is "1901" which is totally a Phoenix song. All i can say is that I love this band. They return after three-year break with a great album.

'Animal'- Miike Snow

This is a curious song I heard a while back. It’s from Miike Snow, a new band that apparently prefers to be rather mysterious, so I don’t know much about them. They have a debut album coming out this year, and have thus far only release this one single (as well as a couple of remixes that are pretty easy to find through Downtown Record’s site if you want to download them legally). It’ll be interesting once more material come out, because it’s hard to get a grasp on a band when you’ve only ever heard one song. When I first heard ‘Animal’ I loved it and desperately wanted to download it, but only the remixes were available. By the time I got my hands on the album version my excitement had waned. What seemed so fresh the first time felt less energetic with each listen. Still, it’s a pretty cool song. Miike Snow intrigues me, and I think this a band to keep an eye on.

Pet Shop Boys - Yes

The new Pet Shop Boys album, produced by Xenomania, featuring 11 new songs, including the single "Love etc." If you miss New Romantics like Visage, Pet Shop Boys or The Culture Club, Yes staisfies enough.

Guest appearances are exciting, Johnny Marr and Owen Pallett (a.k.a. Final Fanstasy).

The UK release date has been confirmed to be 23 March 2009. The lead single, "Love etc.", hits stores a week earlier, on 16 March 2009. Love etc is beautiful, lush melody, and Pet Shop Boys still sound great!

The Decemberists Hazards of Love

New The Decemberists press release:
The album began when Meloy—long fascinated by the British folk revival of the 1960s—found a copy of revered vocalist Anne Briggs's 1966 EP, titled The Hazards of Love. Since there was no actual song with the album's title, he set out to write one, but was soon immersed in something much larger.

The Hazards of Love tells the tale of a woman named Margaret who is ravaged by a shape-shifting animal; her lover, William; a forest queen; and a cold-blooded, lascivious rake, who recounts with spine-tingling ease how he came "to be living so easy and free" in the aforementioned "The Rake's Song". [Becky Stark and Shara Worden] deliver the lead vocals for the female characters, while [Jim James, Robyn Hitchcock, and Rebecca Gates] appear in supporting roles. The range of sounds reflects the characters' arcs, from the accordion's singsong lilt in "Isn't It a Lovely Night?" to the heavy metal thunder of "The Queen's Rebuke/The Crossing".

On January 15, 2009, "The Rake's Song" became available as a free download on their Myspace page. This was followed on February 16, 2009 by "The Hazards of Love 1," again on Myspace. Now i shared "Hazard of Love" for you to download for a short period of time. 7/10

Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

Veckatimest is the third full-length album by Grizzly Bear. It is named after a small island in Dukes County, Massachusetts, and is scheduled to be released on May 26, 2009. A low-quality rip of the album leaked onto the Internet on March 2.

Pronounced, if you're struggling, VECK-ah-TIM-est, the set features orchestral daubings from composing collaborateur du jour, Nico Muhly, and Victoria Legrand of Beach House offered a guest vocal on "Two Weeks." altmusic.about.com

Laura Gibson- "Beasts of Seasons" (2009)

Laura Gibson’s new album is out, and unfortunately “Beasts of Seasons” didn’t really astound me. It was all very lovely and emotional, but it was like reading a literary novel versus a piece of genre fiction…. It was all about careful development and exploration of the innermost feelings. In that way it filled the space of time it took to listen with the honey of Laura Gibson’s voice, and with her chatoyant musings and introspection. But there was no action, no twists, no particular magical moment that really hooked into me and didn’t let go. Just sincere, and at times face-slapping realism. And, to be honest, I found it, like too many literary fictions, a little bit boring. There was next to no variation in the sound of the songs, though beautiful, and I swear the songs and the spacing of the lyrics within them just got slower as the album went on. None of the songs stood out to me except for the charming and animated, ‘Spirited’. That one is definitely worth a listen.

But overall listening to the album was like dripping molasses. Very sweet and slow moving. If you hear one song from the album and enjoy it, I can almost guarantee you’ll like them all, and that’s not meant as a jibe. She has a very stable sound which she carries throughout the album and for those who love this style they will be sure to recognize Gibson’s newest release as a gem. I didn’t really enjoy “Beasts of Seasons” but I can see why it’s being called a masterpiece by those who enjoy this elegant type of singer/songwriter work.

This song isn’t on the album, it’s by a group called the Portland Cello Project, but it does feature Laura Gibson and the style is similar.

Katy Perry - Thinking Of You

Soft screams, candy-like voice of Katy Perry get you to your best romantic moments. I would not like to think my ex-lovers, because lovetime (lifetime:) comes and goes! However, Katy Perry seems to like fooling around and she's singing her soft, drinky song. How pity Katy, look at yourself! This is a good, good song.

Favorite indie artists and key tracks

I love indie rock and all the great artists. They make me love this style deep in my heart. They encouraged me to write more about my favorite music. I won't stop sharing my opinions with you. You can download some of these songs.

Patrick Wolf - Bluebells
The Magic Position is the most memorable album in five years.

Beach House - Master of None
Beach House's every song has its own touchy melody and soul. Master of None never loses its impact once you listened to it.

The Fiery Furnaces - Tropical Iceland

The Shins - New Slang

Feist - My Moon My Man

Bonnie Prince Billy - I see a Darkness
The darkest form of indie rock, Will Oldham teaches you something about songwriting here.

Cocorosie - Techno Love Song
The purest form of music , there is no category, there is no rush. This is unique song!

Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent

Blonde Redhead - Elephant Woman
The closing song of great independent movie "Hard Candy" and it's also the best song on Misery Is A Butterfly.

Elliott Smith - Speed Trials
Of Course, there wouldn't be any best of indie music lists without Elliott. He is a genious.
