Low - Drums And Guns

Rating: 9.5/10
Modern Music Review
Starting with an extra striking uneasy words 'All soldiers, they're all gonna die/And all the little babies, they're all gonna die.' Low is singing the words hearty on opening track "Pretty People", supporting this inconvenient truths by avant-garde unti melodic music. "Drums and Guns" mostly consists of opaque lyrics, unusual noises with foreground male voice and backrounded epic female voice. Check out Dragonfly, Sandinista and Belarus to get in the darker atmosphere and textures. Easily broken, slow songs are not new materials on Low's music. But However Drums And Guns matches the right independent rock benefits on -- luxurious experimentalism, flawless song order, passion of discovery and very interesting guitar supplements.

While it rings on ears, it also carries proudly its own arty success. The More it gets near to end, the more it becomes a strong record. Particularly, difference between songs perfectly covers the gaps of ending sections. These are like a blueprint for how to construct an unusual but extremely effective intependent record.

Like last year's unforgettable records Scott Walkers' "The Drift", The Knife's "Silent Shout", Low's tenth full-length recording"Drums And Guns" hits the target and becomes a true artifact of the year. Release Date: Mar 20, 2007
MM picks:Breaker, Dust on the Window, Take Your Time, In Silence, Violent Past
