Modern Music Review
Roots Rock
The eclectic music, spreading heartland rock, roots music, latin rock, adult music and americana. With "The Town and the City" again, they're willing to play their non-same, improved music, having still same inseparable musicians: David Hidalgo, Conrad Lozano, Louie PĂ©rez, Cesar Rosas and Steve Berlin.
As America's most distinctive and original bands of the '80s, Los Lobos haven't given up to sound like a fresh alternative band by bringing rock back to its roots.
"The Town and the City", which is produced by themselves, brings one of the best Los Lobos
work despite its same tempo at times. It fulfilled me throughout. Because plain guitar lines ,which is supported by mellow blues vocals (The City, Don't ask Why), are quite hooky. Superb bluesy guitars appear in accurate sections every time, and these make "The Town and the City" more adorable and mature than previous Los Lobos records. Check out "No Puedo Mas" for bluesy satisfaction.
Meanwhile, the album is decorated with latin pearls (Chuco's Cumbia, Luna, No Puedo Mas) , bringin' to you warm breezes from latin rock, along a heavy influence of Ritchie Valens, was a pioneer of rock and roll and, as a Mexican-American.
As my notes explained, "The Town and the City" is some kind of plain, extra clever rock album , infected rock & roll, blues, and country. After listening to orgasmic closing song "The Town", you won't be able to reach to the telephone, essential!
