Duran Duran - Medazzaland

The follow-up to the poorly received Thank You, an album of covers, this album finally made John Taylor leave the band. In January 1997, while the band was in the middle of recording the album, he announced his departure from the band he'd formed with childhood friend Nick Rhodes nearly twenty years before. Due to his departure, the band write and record several new tracks for the album, and re-record songs previously done with John. He only plays on four of the songs.

Unfortunately, due in part to the constant pushing back of the album's release date and the fact that their previous record hadn't sold as well, this album didn't sell too well. It was released on October 14, 1997 in North America and Japan. Due to poor sales, plans for a UK release were pushed back and later shelved indefinitely. To this day, the album still has not been released anywhere else.

It's worth noting that on this album, Simon wrote "Who Do You Think You Are," and Nick wrote "Buried in the Sand," both of which are about John. Also, Simon wrote the song "Michael You've Got A Lot To Answer For" about his friend Michael Hutchence, lead singer of the band INXS.
