Led Zeppelin was an English rock band, which is widely regarded as one of the most popular and influential music groups of all time.
Led Zeppelin consisted of four members; Jimmy Page (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, theremin, pedal steel guitar), Robert Plant (lead vocals, harmonica), John Bonham (drums, percussion), and John Paul Jones (bass guitar, keyboards, recorder, mandolin, Mellotron).
Forming the band in 1968, the members of Led Zeppelin were consistent innovators who never lost mainstream appeal. While the band is perhaps best known as pioneers of the hard rock and heavy metal genres, Led Zeppelin also included disparate elements from an eclectic spectrum in their music, including blues, rockabilly, reggae, soul, funk, Celtic, Indian, Arabic, folk, and even Latin.
More than 25 years after the group decided to quit in response to the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, Led Zeppelin's music continues to sell well, garner widespread radio play, and prove a seminal influence on modern rock music. To date, the group is reported to have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide, including 109 million sales in the United States alone.
