on playlist: Amy Macdonald's Poison Prince

From 2007's one of the best debuts, Poison Prince is on my playlist recently. The album "This Is the Life" achieved a great success, it entered to charts #2. I'm so greatful to artists such as Dido, Amy Winehouse and Feist for bringing amazing moments to this music blog.

For Amy Macdonald, I'm hopeful that she releases amazing hits in future. Like another favorite singer Bat For Lashes, I think she has a great future ahead.

Singles of the Week

Perhaps I'm feeling melancholy of late, or perhaps this is simply a beautiful song. Either way it's like a long sigh after a hard day. It's hard to tell if it's a sigh of sadness or relief.

Pink Mountaintops- While We Were Dreaming

And because the other one is a long sigh, I'll give you a grin to go with it. Shugo Tokumaru is such a genius when it comes to feel-good romps like this. It's like an evening catching fireflies in the summertime. I couldn't find the translated lyrics... I hope they're as happy as they sound.

Shugo Tokumaru- Rum Hee

Idlewild returns a summer album "Post Electric Blues"

I love reading short reviews about new albums, like exactly DrownedInSound did on "Post Electric Blues".

They Said:
"It's the sort of album I was hoping they'd make (Noisy Alt-country REMish stuff again) rather than trying to write a rock album like the last one. Sounds like a summer album."

Believe me, it's been better previous "Make Another World".

mp3:Idlewild - City Hall

Live mp3s: From Joni Mitchell's Miles of Aisles

Adorable "Miles of Aisles" is a 1974 double live album by Joni Mitchell backed by the L.A. Express, recorded on the Court and Spark tour.

It reached #2 on the charts and became one of her biggest-selling records. And its "Blue" remains as the best performance in my head!!!

mp3s:
Blue
Carey
Big Yellow Taxi

90s Music: The Replacements "Kiss Me on the Bus", "I Will Dare" and "Unsatisfied"

Don't need to say much, here comes the best band of the 90s.

Short Bio:
The Replacements were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1979. The band was composed of guitarist and vocalist Paul Westerberg, guitarist Bob Stinson, bassist Tommy Stinson, and drummer Chris Mars for most of their career. Following their critically acclaimed 1984 album Let It Be, the band signed to Sire Records and became one of the first American underground rock bands to sign to a major record label. After Bob Stinson was fired in 1986, the band experienced several line-up changes; Slim Dunlap joined as lead guitarist and Steve Foley replaced Chris Mars in 1990. Towards the end of the band's career, Westerberg exerted more control over their creative output. The group disbanded in 1991, with the members ultimately pursuing various projects. The Replacements never experienced any significant commercial success but have influenced a variety of alternative rock acts.

So 80s: David Sylvian - Weathered Wall

Brilliant Trees is an eclectic affair fusing funk, jazz, and ambient. And one of the best tracks, "Weathered Wall," absolutely deserves a mention on The Modern Music blog.

I love picking some perfect songs from past and present. I hope you like David Sylvian's amazing voice and night atmosphere. Brian Eno also appears as collaborator with the woozy trumpet.

Awesome Deal on Fanfarlo's New Album 'Reservoir'

I’ve known about the band Fanfarlo for maybe a month. I’d listened to only a few of their songs, but what I heard was so good I made a mental note to seek out more someday. So when I heard through the grapevine that the band was basically giving away their entire album Reservoir, plus bonus tracks, for only one dollar, I jumped on it quick. Try and name one thing you can get for one dollar these days, and if you can even come up with anything I can guarantee it won’t be as good as this! Even if you don't know you're going to like it, what harm can there be in dropping one dollar for 15 songs? Get it while you can, the offer is only good until July 4th.

Download the entire album for $1! Get it here: http://www.fanfarlo.com/

The Steep Canyon Rangers- Top Notch Bluegrass!

Here is a band that is very close to my heart. I’ve seen the Steep Canyon Rangers in concert 5 times, and I’ve shared my pizza with them too! There is no substitute to seeing these guys live. They light the stage on fire with their fiddling and pickin’. The mandolin, banjo and bass never sounded so good, and the fiddle was never played so fast! I have watched these guys progress over the years and they have progressed so far, and their songs only keep getting better. They write all of their own music, though of course they play classics too. They’ve won countless awards by this point, and their song ‘One Dime At A Time’ was number one on the Bluegrass charts for weeks. They’ve played at the Grand Ole Opry, and recently they’ve been on tour with comedian and banjo-player Steve Martin, and even had a mention on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show.

I couldn’t recommend only one of their albums. All five of them are fantastic. ‘Knob Creek’ is one of the greatest instrumental pieces I’ve ever heard. Their newest album ‘Lovin’ Pretty Women’ is particularly excellent. If you have any interest whatsoever in Bluegrass you need to check them out. If you don’t, check them out anyway and maybe you’ll find out you do! If you can, you must go to one of their concerts and see them perform. Here’s one of their best, though more sedate, songs:

80s: Church Of The Poison Mind by Culture Club

I love 80s dreamy music. Culture Club (well known with lead singer Boy George) is maybe one of the gayest bands in the 80s. Their unforgettable hits such as Time (Clock Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, Everything I Own, my favorite and best Church Of The Poison Mind. It stars strong harmonica, and flows with Boy George's girlish amazing voice. Then on choruses, strong female vocals make the strong a classic 80s hit.
